Age: Late Cretaceous (~70 Million years ago)

Mosasaurs were a group of large aquatic lizards that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. They were the apex marine predator of their time, but they were not dinosaurs; rather, they are more closely related to modern-day Komodo Dragons.
Double-hinged jaws and highly flexible skulls allowed Mosasaurs to consume food that was man-sized or even larger. Their teeth lack cutting edges or grinding surfaces, meaning that prey had to be swallowed whole.
