Complement your gothic decor with this engraved skeleton bone box, a replica of a traditional stamp box. The box is made of natural, authentic ox bone tiles inlaid on a durable, sturdy wood-composite base, and etched in black.

The world's first postage stamp was issued in Great Britain in 1840. In those days, sending a letter was a special occasion, and stamps were expensive, so special boxes such as this and cases were created to hold them.

Traditional scrimshaw art involved carving or etching motifs on bone or ivory and filling in the grooves with ink; it was often practiced by American sailors on long voyages during the 18th and 19th centuries.
