Mermaids Engraved Bone Box

This antique reproduction bone box with hinged lid and green felt-lined interior is made of natural, authentic ox bone tiles, etched with a mermaid motif, and hand-polished to enhance the coloring. Great decor for the beach house or mermaid lover! Perfect for holding jewelry, keys and keepsakes. 

Traditional scrimshaw art involved carving or etching motifs on bone or ivory and filling in the grooves with ink; it was often practiced by American sailors on long voyages during the 18th and 19th centuries.
