Source: Green River Formation, Kemmerer, WY
Size: 12" x 9"
This is an exceptionally large and complete plate of Priscacara, an uncommon genus related to modern sunfish.
The plate measures approximately 9" × 12", with the fish itself about 8" long. The specimen is completely natural and fully intact, with excellent detail and well-preserved color. This is a museum-quality specimen and a beautiful display piece.
The unusual chemical conditions at the bottom of Fossil Lake, part of the Green River formation, slowed bacterial decomposition, prevented scavengers from disturbing corpses, and suffocated creatures that ventured into the oxygen-starved aquatic layer. This resulted in a range of perfectly preserved animal remains, including a number of these incredibly well-preserved prehistoric fish.
