Age: Late Cretaceous (~70 Million years ago)

Family: Mosasauridae

Origin: Kem Kem Basin, Morocco

This authentic fossilized mosasaur skull measures an impressive 15 inches in length and features separate upper and lower sections. This specimen is presented on a custom metal armature, making it a perfect display piece.

Mosasaurs were a group of large aquatic lizards that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. They were the apex marine predator of their time, but they were not dinosaurs; rather, they are more closely related to modern-day Komodo Dragons.

Double-hinged jaws and highly flexible skulls allowed Mosasaurs to consume food that was man-sized or even larger. Their teeth lack cutting edges or grinding surfaces, meaning that prey had to be swallowed whole.

These types of fossils are frequently "composited" as part of the restoration process, featuring parts of more than one creature; such is likely the case with this specimen, especially with the teeth.

Dimensions: 15" length x 5.5" width x 6" height (14" with stand)
